That’s right. This photo was taken just after Fedex bought out Flying Tigers. You can see where Fedex painted over the Flying Tigers logo and slapped on a decal, instead. I flew one just like it from Oakland International to Osan once. Perhaps it was the very same aircraft. I don’t think Federal Express had very many passenger-configured B-747s at the time.
And last but not least is a rare one. It’s a Trans Caribbean Airways DC-8. We flew on one between McGuire AFB and England in the early 1970s. The Web says that the airline was flagged in the Netherlands Antilles, so there’s no telling why the Air Force chartered that one.

The first is a CL-44 in the colors of the Flying Tiger Line. That bird, manufactured in Canada of all places, almost killed my entire family. We put down in Anchorage, Alaska to refuel, and sometime after we departed one of the engines failed (it apparently caught on fire). The pilot tried to reach Shemya on the Aleutian Island chain for an emergency landing, but the crosswinds were too high, so he had to turn back for Anchorage—low on fuel. My Dad says he feathered another engine to conserve fuel and we barely made it back to Anchorage on fumes. This all happened in the middle of the night, and Dad says we were flying so low that he could see the whitecaps on the ocean below.

IMO, the old United livery is ugly. I never liked the grey paint scheme. The new United livery is quite nice. I also like the new US Airway livery. Too bad they didn't keep any of the colorful elements of America West Airlines when they merged

Soaring oil prices have hit Airlines extremely hard, having a huge knock on effect within the aviation industry. Flight routes have been dropped, ticket prices have spiralled higher, ticket sales have fallen, profits are down and some Airlines face going under. In the current climate, how can Airlines reduce their overheads and operating costs quickly and efficiently? One answer to this questions lies with a company called newbow aerospace ltd. Newbow aerospace ltd is the World’s leading manufacturer and supplier of specialist aircraft and aviation tire service equipment, tooling and instrumentation. Currently supplying a vast range of aircraft tire inflation and pressure measurement equipment to more than 40% of leading World Airlines, Aviation Maintenance Companies and numerous World Governments across the Globe, their superior equipment is now being recognised as a cost effective solution to reducing airline operating costs

aircraft, which is one of my favourite aircraft to fly. I have been known to re-organise travel plans to travel on this aircraft rather than others, such as Boeing's own wide-body 767.So we can all expect to be flying longer and longer sectors as the endurance of these aircraft keeps lengthening, while ticket pricing decreases. This also means airlines and aircraft manufacturers will be working on ways to make the journey more pleasant and indeed safer in terms of passenger and crew welfare on board. One of the first people to write about such issues was former cabin crew member, Diana Fairechild

UPS Airlines had ordered ten Airbus A380 freighters and had options on ten more. As part of the deal, the airline reduced an existing commitment for ninety Airbus A300 freighters to fifty three. But, in March 2007, UPS canceled their A380F orders. UPS has yet to announce a replacement order in place of the A380Fs. It has been rumored that UPS will order Boeing's 777F. UPS has also ordered eight Boeing 747-400 freighters to increase capacity on its major "trunk" routes to Europe, Asia, and North America. These are expected to be delivered in June 2007 and go on through 2008. UPS Airlines placed a firm order for 27 additional Boeing 767-300 Freighters in February 2007 to be delivered 2009 to 2012.

As I look back at the year 2001 in the flight simulation community, its been one heck of a year for advancements in aircraft and panel technology. It all started off with PSS releasing their highly realistic and successful Boeing 747-400 package. With a fully functional FMC and highly detailed aircraft, it was a steal at just under US$10. Then came renowned panel authors Eric Ernst, Laurent Crenier, Wade Chafe and Pedros Sousa, along with Wilco Publishing with their 767 Pilot In Command. And once again, the bar went further in terms of realism, immersion, and real world fidelity.
And now, Flight1 in the US and Just Flight in Europe are here to try and push the envelope further with the Dreamfleet Boeing 737-400 package. Each of the developers mentioned above provides a realistic package for their respective aircraft. And Dreamfleet is no exception. I've spent just over two years working on Boeing 737s and I must say that this package is the best recreation of the real aircraft to date. I'm not going to go into a long-winded historical saga of how the 737 came about and its history. The downloadable documentation takes care of that, along with Boeing's website, and many other websites on the Internet. A quick mention—the product release used to write this review was the downloadble version that included the latest patch. Some users reported problems with DPs/STARs not being available with the out-of-the-box version, but if you apply the latest patch available from the Dreamfleet website, that problem will be alleviated. So in our first section, we'll talk about documentation and installation.

Biodiesel and others alternative fuels has a potential to reduce emissions and to stop or slow down change of climate. So cutting emissions is one of the most important global initiative of present and future. High level of carbon dioxide and other exhaust gases in an atmosphere cause smog in cities, and woldwide has an influence on global warming. Exhaust gases are composed of nitrogen (N2), carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon oxide (CO), nitrogen oxide (NOX), hydrocarbons and particulate matters. Their origin is mainly from fossil fuels.

Qatar Airways is one of the fastest growing airlines in the world. With a string of accolades under its belt, which includes the prestigious 5-star rating from Skytrax (one of only four airlines in the world and the only airline in the Middle East), Qatar Airways is fast becoming recognised as a world leader in aviation. At the 2006 World Travel Awards, Qatar Airways boosted its increasing list of honours, ‘World’s Leading Business Class Airline’, ‘World’s Leading Airline In-flight Meal Service’, ‘Leading Airline in the Middle East and ‘Leading Middle East Business Class Airline’.
The airline operates 35 flights a week out of the UK to its hub in Doha – (Three times a day from London Heathrow and daily from London Gatwick and Manchester) – connecting to over almost 80 destinations worldwide.
Operating a 57 all Airbus fleet, Qatar Airways' customers benefit from a superior level of in-flight comfort coupled with the airline's superlative levels of customer service. This has been further enhanced by the recent launch of the High Gross Weight version of the new A340-600, offering its premium class passengers an exclusive onboard First-Class Lounge featuring a stand up bar, spotlight mood lighting and cream leather sofas to seat six passengers for dining.

We are getting plenty of ‘World’s first’ since the past few days here. Only last weekend had we seen the plans for world’s largest solar power plant in Arizona be unveiled and also the world’s first Trans-Pacific Wave powered boat trip. Now we have the world’s first commercial flight on biofuel. I guess these are exciting days for those who have clamored for greener energy sources since long. The list is quite impressive indeed- Solar Energy, Wave Energy and now Biofuel. I suppose every industry and every economic sector is trying its best to move forward on the green path.
The first commercial airliner to fly using biofuel took off only yesterday in what is being hailed as a breakthrough in the search for alternatives to oil. The Virgin Atlantic Jumbo jet flew from Heathrow to Amsterdam with one of its engines partly powered by a mixture of coconut oil and oil from babassu trees found in Brazilian rain forests. Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson said the flight proved the possibility of an alternative to fossil fuel and could lead to a cut in CO2 emissions. Virgin has always tried to do something out-of-the-box to make sure it hits the headlines.

world’s best low cost airline and Singapore Airlines the world’s best airline in the annual World Airline Awards.
The awards are based on the world’s largest passenger survey, involving 15 million passengers over an 11 month period and are organised by Skytrax, which operates the Airline Star Ranking and Quality Certified Airline programmes.
Commenting on easyJet’s award, Skytrax CEO, Edward Plaisted, says: "As we have stated in earlier years, low-cost does not need to, nor should it equate to, low-quality service, and easyJet is clear testament that low-cost operations can be delivered with a good standard of customer care and passenger service quality - with their level of customer loyalty clearly demonstrating a winning formula".

Malaysian airline, the chief airlines of Malaysia is running in loss for more than seven years. Though the company has been making predictions and has taken several measures to make the company profitable, year after year the company is moving into losses. What is wrong? The operations, the management, the service, or what else.. Let us have a look into the matter in detail. A stunning loss in 3 months as on 30 June 2005 of MYR280.7m has been reported by Malaysian Airline authorities. May be because of the rise in fuel costs .A loss in excess of MYR 1bn may have been recorded by Malaysia Airlines for 2005, it has been claimed. An unnamed official quoted by Dow Jones Newswires has stated that the carrier reported a loss of up to MYR552m for the fourth quarter of 2005, making the airline's full year loss worse than the predicted, to a fi

Malaysian Airlines has been classified as a five-star airline by the World Airline Star Ranking program, operated by Skytrax. The ranking has been done on the basis of the quality of service offered and the products. Even after recognizing the fact that the company is moving into losses, the company has been purchasing new air crafts and increasing the fair charges to keep up the standard, but for what reason? Is it this the right solution? A company like MAS could look at different ways to find out the formula to make up the loss, the company already have a problem and they should try not to create more .. instead they can work on it by the best possible means and reach the profit line.. Then they can think about the standard…

German airline Deutsche Lufthansa AG firmed up its order for 30 Bombardier CSeries CS100 jets yesterday, formally catapulting Montreal’s aircraft manufacturer into the narrow-body airliner segment currently carved up between Boeing and Airbus. The firm order, first announced as a tentative deal last summer, will mark the first time Bombardier produces traditional-looking jets with wing-mounted engines, a niche that has long been the exclusive preserve of Airbus’s A320 and Boeing’s 737 families of aircraft. With the order in hand, Bombardier will now push ahead with building its largest aircraft to date. The 110-to-149 seat aircraft has been in development for the better part of a decade and will put the Montreal-based plane maker in the big leagues. The CSeries will compete against the smallest planes built by Boeing and Airbus

May 1923 as the Belgian national carrier. It took over from Belgium's previous airline, SNETA (Syndicat Aeriens pour l'Etude des Transports Aeriens) which was formed in 1919 as a national airline.
SABENA AIR LINES' first paying flight was on 1 April 1924 on a flight from Rotterdam to Strasbourg stopping at Brussels. Regular flights to Amsterdam and Basle via Strasbourg were started by 1923 with further routes to London, Bremen and Copenhagen by 1924..
When SABENA was formed it was part funded by Belgians in the Congo colony who had only a year before lost their air service - an experimental passenger and cargo company (L.A.R.A.) between Kinshasha, Lisala and Stanleyville - and expected the new Belgian national airline to fill this gap. So from 1925 SABENA pioneered a route to Africa and to Belgium's interests in the Belgian Congo.

vis to be developed in two versions: the 747-8I (Intercontinental) passenger plane and the 747-8F freighter). Both versions will be 5,6 meter longer than the 747-400. The new version is named 747-8 to underline the use of modern technology from the 787 Dreamliner twinjet, including the General Electric GEnx turbofan engines. Boeing will deliver the first aircraft in 2009.

During the late 1980s Boeing developed the 747-400, with the same fuselage length and extended upper deck as the 747-300, but with a larger wingspan, winglets, a highly modernised digital flight deck, higher weights and a lower fuel consumption thanks to improved engines. The 747-400 made its maiden flight on 29 April 1988. It is also available in a 'short-bulge' cargo version (747-400F)and as a combi (747-400M). The 747-400D (Domestic) for short-range flights doesn't have winglets. The 747-400ER is an improved extended range version, of which also a freighter variant exists, the 747-400ERF.

The Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet was the largest passenger aircraft in operational service in the world for almost forty years, until in October 2007 the Airbus A380 took over this position. The 747 was the first widebody aircraft to fly and being much larger than its predecessors like the Boeing 707 and Douglas DC-8 meant a revolution in air transport. The history of the 747 started halfway the 1960s. Boeing lost the competition for the development of a large airlifter for the US Air Force in 1965 to Lockheed's C-5A Galaxy and sought ways to apply the experience gathered on this project to a big airliner. In March 1966 the Boeing board of directors decided to go ahead with the 747 programme and one month later Pan American World Airways announced the purchase of 25 aircraft. Many airlines followed, not always because had enough passengers to fill the aircraft, but often because their managements feared that the Jumbo Jet would make the DC-8 and 707 look obsolete in the eyes of the travelling public.

21 January 1970 is the day of the world's first widebody commercial flight when Pan Am flew a Boeing 747 from New York to London Heathrow. Pan Am was the first customer for the Jumbo Jet and played a major role in the emergence of this aircraft type. In total Pan Am operated 65 Boeing 747-100's, -200s and -SPs. The picture shows two Jumbo Jets in different liveries at Frankfurt Rhein/Main Airport, where the airline operated a big hub during many years.Pan Am was a real aviation pioneer. It was founded in 1927 in the Key West as Pan American Airways by Juan Terry Trippe. Pan Am's first activity was flying mail between Key West and Havana. With the arrival of a Fokker F.7 it started a passenger service on the same route in January

The US airline TWA Trans World Airlines was, like Pan Am, primarily a long-haul intercontinental airline. During the 1970s and 1980s TWA was also a major operator of the Boeing 747. It flew a total of around forty 747-100s, -200s and -SPs. Other widebodies flown by TWA were the Lockheed L-1011 Tristar and the Boeing 767.The airline was founded in 1925 as Western Air Express. After a merger with Transcontinental Air Transport (T-A-T) in 1930 it became Transcontinental and Western Air (T&WA). The name Trans World Airlines was adopted in 1950.

As had been outlined in the narrative for the DC-3, Transcontinental & Western Air officially became Trans World Airlines on 17 May 1950. Note fuselage titling now has the appended "-s" seen on the TWA supplied image above, acquired in 1953. In the years from 1948 to 1950 TWA had ordered 37 of the long range version of the Constellation, comprising 12 model 749s and 25 749As (the latter having a higher gross all up weight). These were used both domestically on transcontinental routes (primarily New York to Los Angeles) and also internationally. N6014C was delivered in November of 1950 and named "Star of Delaware". It was withdrawn from use at the company's then headquarters at Kansas City in 1967.

However, airline deregulation hit TWA hard. The holding company, Trans World Corporation , spun off the airline. The airline briefly considered selling itself to corporate raider Frank Lorenzo in the 1980s, but ended up selling to Carl Icahn in 1985. Later, in 1992, the airline filed for bankruptcy.

At the outset, I should mention that I cannot read or write a word of Japanese, so it is with a certain sense of caution that I took on this review. Although World Airlines was created for a Japanese flight simulation audience, all of the included aircraft have English-language cockpits and liveries, and the manual has instructions in English as well. If you don’t understand any Japanese words, you can still use all of the features World Airlines has to offer
